Photo credit: Derrick Tuskan via ucsdtritions.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/sports\/baseball\">UC San Diego<\/a> reliever Izaak Martinez has been named a semifinalist for 2024 National Pitcher of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martinez is one of 14 hurlers named to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/college-baseball-foundation-names-2024-pitcher-of-the-year-semifinalists\">watch list<\/a>, announced by the College Baseball Foundation, and one of two pitchers from the Big West. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The left-hander has added to his growing list of accolades, after earning a spot on the Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalists list. He was also part of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year midseason watch list, which recognizes the best relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Glendora native served as the\u00a0Tritons&#8217; closer in his fifth season, leading the <a href=\"https:\/\/bigwest.org\/standings.aspx?standings=168\">Big West<\/a> in earned run average, opponent batting average and saves for the majority of the campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Senior Izaak Martinez caps his Triton career with strikeout number 2\u20e32\u20e34\u20e3<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GoTritons?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GoTritons<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ItKK7KtaR2\">pic.twitter.com\/ItKK7KtaR2<\/a><\/p>&mdash; UC San Diego Baseball (@UCSDbsb) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UCSDbsb\/status\/1792329147026706443?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 19, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Martinez also spent multiple weeks atop the nation in ERA and currently ranks second overall with a 1.85 ERA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He led the\u00a0Tritons\u00a0with 25 appearances out of the bullpen, collecting 61 strikeouts in 63.1 innings of work.
