Editorial integrity is fundamental to the publication of Times of San Diego. Here are the eleven principles that Times of San Diego operates under.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Accuracy<\/strong> — Accurate news coverage is the highest goal. Writers are responsible for checking their content, and editors double-check to ensure its accuracy. We respond immediately to requests for corrections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Accountability<\/strong> — We immediately correct all errors of fact. If necessary, we will include an editor’s note explaining what happened to cause the error. Errors may be reported to news@timesofsandiego.com<\/a> or by calling 858-369-0366.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Independence<\/strong> –We seek to avoid conflicts of interest, and disclose them if unavoidable. Our coverage will not altered for advertisers, donors or any other special interest, including local political and business leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Fairness<\/strong> — We strive to be fair in all coverage, examining all sides to an issue and seeking to include all voices. We seek response from the subjects of our news coverage and allow them to respond to criticism. People involved in tragic situations are always treated with compassion. If appropriate to avoid continued disparagement, we will delete a name or remove an article from our archives after a year of publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Comprehensive coverage<\/strong> — We are a small team, but we seek to provide comprehensive coverage of important news affecting all parts of San Diego County. We believe comprehensive coverage is an aspect of fairness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Reputable content sources<\/strong> — Our content is compiled from original reporting, trustworthy wire services and verified media releases. We also include articles from reputable partners like CalMatters<\/a> and KQED. We do not allow plagiarism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Identified sources<\/strong> — The sources of our content are always identified, except in the rare instance where doing so may put the source at risk of physical harm or other serious impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Thoughtful opinion <\/strong>— Times of San Diego does not publish editorials, but instead seeks thoughtful opinion columns from all parts of the community. If a team member writes an op-ed, it is clearly indicated. All opinion columns are labeled as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Straightforward social media<\/strong> — We routinely share links to articles and photos on Facebook, X and Instagram, but we do not use social media to advance an opinion or agenda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. No gifts<\/strong> — We don’t accept payment or gifts for news coverage. Any advertising that is in the form of a article is clearly labeled as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11. Safety and legality <\/strong>— The safety of our staff is paramount, with no member asked to undertake a potentially dangerous assignment. We comply with all legal requirements regarding first-person reporting and business practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
